Raymond McCardle

Raymond Levon McCardle passed away peacefully at home on June 2, 2026, at age 77. He was born on July 20, 1948, to Charles Alexander and Agnes Biles McCardle in Birmingham, AL. He is preceded in death by his parents; step-father, James Galloway; son, Shaun Kendall; son-in-law, Steve; granddaughters: Tamara and Baylee Grace; and many sisters, brothers, and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Freddie McCardle; daughters,Angela (Greg) Gardner Sonya Goodwin, Ann Lowery Peterman ; grandchildren: Steven (Savanna), Seth, Hannah (Elijah), Tabitha, and Austin; great-grandchildren: Sophia, Sydney, Samuel, Jayce, and, soon to join the family, Isaac; sisters: Martha Richardson and Charlotte Weems; many nieces and nephews, friends, and his beloved pets: Bella and Boy.

He loved to preach the Gospel and sing Gospel hymns. Before his illness, he taught Sunday School and actively sought any opportunity to share with others what Christ did in his life. He taught his children and grandchildren the value of hard labor, to put Christ first, and forgiveness. He will be dearly missed and remembered for his quick wit, jokester manner, and love for others.

A viewing and visitation for Mr. McCardle will be held at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Leeds, AL on Monday, June 8, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. with funeral services held on Tuesday, June 9, at 1:00 pm. Immediately following the funeral service, we will be traveling in a formal procession to Forest Crest Cemetery in Irondale, AL for a brief graveside service prior to internment.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that memorial donations be made to the UAB Alzheimer’s Research Disease Center in his memory.
