Robert H. “Bob” Beavers, of Cook Springs, Alabama passed away on Monday July 25, 2022, after a few months of failing health. He died peacefully at his home surrounded by his family and with his wife holding his hand. He was 93 years old.
Bob was born on June 29, 1929, in Cook Springs, AL to Annie Lee (Castleberry) and Thomas Henry Beavers. In 1947, he married the love of his life, Mary Sue (Wilson) and they were inseparable for over 75 years of marriage, which they celebrated together on July 19, 2022, at Cook Springs Baptist Church. They lived in the same home in Cook Springs, which they built in 1952, and together raised 4 children, Wayne, Dale, Denise and John, living there for over 70 years.
As a very young man he learned to work hard and to take on whatever job was available to support himself. He worked briefly at The Rosebud Café in Lincoln, Alabama, and some other area companies but most of his career was spent at Connor Steel in Birmingham where he retired on August 27, 1982, after 34 years of dedicated service. After his retirement, he continued to work and was employed at ADESA auto auction in Moody for several years.
He was an ordained deacon at Cook Springs Baptist church and later continued to serve at Eden Westside Baptist church. In his latter years he was also a member at Mt. Olive Baptist church in Chula Vista, Alabama. He was a Master Mason with the Ben M. Jacobs Masonic lodge where he enjoyed years of dedicated service to all. He enjoyed fishing and all outdoor activities, but his true passion was camping and serving others. Family camping trips were a routine and traditional occurrence and in retirement Bob and Sue found their true purpose in life by combining camping and service to God though traveling all over the U.S. with the Alabama Campers on Mission. They served in construction and service projects starting in 1978 in Indiana, Kentucky, Alabama, Missouri, Georgia, Utah, and Montana. They also enjoyed hosting at Alabama State Parks and Army Corps of Engineer parks in both Alabama and Mississippi. He enjoyed helping others come to love God and camping and always seemed to find someone he knew, wherever he went. He never met a stranger! He loved spending time with his family through planning and
organizing reunions and gatherings for them to fellowship and continue to remain active in each other’s lives. He loved each of his 4 children, 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren and always enjoyed watching them grow and prosper. He loved his family and always put everyone before himself. He had a true servant’s heart until the end. He was dearly loved and will be missed greatly!
Mr. Bob Beavers is preceded in death by his son, Larry Dale Beavers, two grandsons, Adam Keith Beavers and Taylor Gregory Smith, his parents, brothers, and sisters.
Mr. Bob Beavers is survived by his loving wife, Sue Beavers of Cook Springs; children, Wayne Beavers (Violet) of Leeds, Denise Smith (Greg) of Alabaster, John Beavers (Tammy) of Talladega and Daughter-In-law, Dianna Beavers of Cook Springs, 9 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, July 28, 2022, at Cook Springs Baptist church with family & friends’ visitation from 9-11am and service to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to the Alabama Campers on Mission, C/O Joyce Godwin, 18496 Plywood Mill Road, Andalusia, AL 36421.
