My heart is so heavy on the eve of Amanda’s memorial service. This has been incredibly difficult and complicated to not only accept, but process. I spent the tonight remembering the good times that we had and I thought I’d share one of my favorites here.

Our absolute favorite movie was The Color Purple. We would watch it anytime we needed a good cry. I watched it again tonight as a matter of fact. It’s a beautiful, yet heartbreaking story about two sisters forced apart under terrible circumstances. These sisters went through unspeakable things during their lives, but somehow survived against all odds and ended up happily together again in the end.

We always had a connection to this story and literally quoted parts of the movie almost every time we talked. She even called me Nettie and I called her Miss Celie after the main characters in the film. I know it may not make sense to anyone else, but it was just our thing.

Staying true to this constant in my life, I will dedicate one last quote from the movie to Amanda and hope it makes her smile.

“Me and You us never part, makidada.
Me and you we have one heart, makidada.
Ain’t no ocean, aint no sea, makidada.
Keep my sister away from me, makidada.”

Makidada is Swahili for sisters. The girls would sing this as part of a hand clap game.

The world lost a great individual when Amanda passed. It’s with a heavy heart that I even leave this memory. I met Amanda 4 years ago; we are neighbors. Amanda and I connected immediately. We share the same kind of humor and would always text back-and-forth about anything and everything happy and sad. I miss that. My daughter Piper and her daughter Brantleigh had spend the night parties together. She was witty and smart. I could always get sound advice from her with a touch of humor. She was and will always be a dear friend to me. And I wish I could hug the girls. Rest In Peace Amanda. You are so loved.

I'm so sad I didn't get a chance to meet Amanda in person, but I know she had lit up my cousin, Jamy's world and brought a glow to him when he spoke about her. It seems like they had both been drawn to each other in the right place and at the right time. She must have been a very special lady. My heart goes out to her family and all who loved her, during this time.

I met Amanda in 2008 when we both worked overseas. So much has changed since then. She became a momma, and the most loving one out there. Those girls were her world. And she found true love with her best friend. Amanda was truly happy.
Amanda was always there for me. Amanda loved her fur babies almost as much as her two legged babies. Amanda helped me when I first adopted my furbaby (it was a rough start). And was there for me when I lost my soul mate. Yes my four legged furbaby - that's what my furbaby was to me. Amanda checked in on me regularly. She knew I was broken hearted and just wanted to help her friend. She was like that, she cared about others and the pain they went through in life. I am thankful for the time we had with Amanda, even though it will never be long enough. I miss you my sweet friend. Your missed by so many and touched so many peoples lives.
To the family - You are in my thoughts and prayers.

We had the pleasure of meeting Amanda a couple of years ago with Jamy at his Grandmother's house. We were struck by what a successful, beautiful and poised woman she was. She will be greatly missed by Jamy and his whole family.
We are so sorry for your loss.
Much Love, Terri and Lee”

I only met this beautiful young lady one time but the sweet quietness and lovely demeanor marked her as she brought so much joy and love to my nephew. Thank you for the time you were there and the beauty you brought to that sweet combined family. You have brought lasting memories that have altered the lives of Jamy, Ethan and Courtney. Thank you.

This is Courtney and I was so ready for Miss. Amanda to be my step mom and Brantleigh and Kollins to be my step sisters, I loved the 3 beautiful years that she gave to us and all I wish is that she could spend more time with me, Ethan Brantleigh, Kollins and dad I also wish that we can see Brantleigh and Kollins still. They will always be like sisters to me and Ethan. She would have been the best step mother I could ever ask for. But all I can say is with her in my life it was the best. I love you Miss. Amanda.
