Terry married the love of his life, Priscilla, on February 14, 1986. Together, they built a loving home and raised three daughters. He was a proud and devoted husband and father who cherished his family, but it was his role as "Pawpaw" to his six grandchildren that was his favorite title.
Terry was a graduate of Woodlawn High School. The friendships that began during his time spent on the football field and in the hallways at Woodlawn carried him through his entire adult life, and they remain here on earth with us as a constant reminder of the way he lived and loved everyone he knew.
For 45 years, Terry worked at Mayer Electric Company, where he was known for his dedication, integrity, and strong work ethic. The relationships built during his time there created a legacy that lives on, even in his absence. In his community, he was a well-respected fixture who touched countless lives. Terry had a deep faith in God, and spent many years teaching youth Sunday School. He had a gift for shaping the hearts of young men and pointing them to Jesus, whether that was through coaching, leading Sunday school, hunting or investing in someone’s life however he could. He never met a stranger, and rarely left a conversation without making a friend. He was humble, and often looked for ways to help others without being noticed or seeking praise.
Terry’s love for others was evident in everything he did. He made sure everyone knew how much they were loved and was always there for those who needed him. His kindness, compassion, and encouragement will be missed by all who knew him. He loved so big, and made sure to never leave an “I love you” unsaid.
The last decade of his life was spent facing and navigating the challenges brought on by his diagnosis of Primary Progressive Aphasia, but his sweet and loving spirit never wavered. He was truly an angel on this earth. Toward the end of Terry’s battle, God brought Maliria and NeeNee from From The Heart Senior Care into our lives. The level of care they showed not only Terry, but our entire family is difficult to put into words - we are forever grateful for them.
Terry is survived by his loving wife, Priscilla; his three daughters, Emily Anderson, Kelly Rodriguez (Rafael), and Ashley Mills (Jared); his six grandchildren, Ian, Maura, Thomas, Anderson, Rhema and Eliza Jane; and many other cherished family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, William, mother, Agnes, and siblings Murray and Sandra.
A memorial service celebrating Terry’s life will be held at the Church of Highlands Woodlawn Campus on Saturday, February 15th at 1:30PM, with visitation beginning at 11:30AM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider giving to the Church of the Highlands Birmingham Dream Center.
Terry’s legacy of love, faith, and community will continue to live on in the hearts of all who were fortunate enough to have known him. We encourage everyone who knew him to remember him often and fondly, and carry on the legacy of his life by telling the people you love how you feel about them. We are not promised tomorrow, but with the hope of Heaven we look forward to seeing Terry again. As his family, we know he would want the same assurance for you. If you do not have a personal relationship with Jesus, we encourage you to seek our Heavenly Father. His perfect love never fails!
