Vi was preceded in death by her parents, but is survived by her devoted husband, Jim Parramore, and her sons and grandchildren: Britt Parramore (sons Luke and Alex) and Kent Parramore (son Kaden and daughter Kenna), as well as her sister Vicki Spence of Calhoun, Georgia, and her family. Vi was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She especially adored all of her grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Vi graduated from Athens High School in Athens, Georgia in 1966 where she was the Solo Twirler, and was competitive in sports with basketball, tennis, and swimming. She was elected by the student body as Miss SFCA. In 1970, Vi graduated from the University of Georgia with a degree in Elementary Education. During her time at UGA she was a Georgette with the Redcoat Band. She continued her education earning her master’s degree in 1973.
Vi began her teaching career in 1970 with the Clarke County School System in Athens, Georgia. In 1974, she continued teaching in the Brooks County Schools in Quitman, Georgia. After moving to Sterrett, Alabama she became involved with the weekday preschool at Leeds First Baptist Church where she faithfully attended and developed and led an excellent early childhood education program. She later returned to public education in Jefferson County, Alabama where she taught both elementary and special needs students. Vi was widely regarded as exceptional educator.
During her time teaching in Leeds, Alabama she became aware of a significant number of students experiencing learning challenges that were believed to be connected to environmental contamination, and she worked alongside the community to bring about the eventual closure of the facility that was the source of the pollution.
Vi was deeply committed to supporting educators. She became an active member of the Jefferson County Federation of Teachers (AFT), affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers. She was elected President of the Jefferson County AFT and served for many years representing educators and classified employees. She remained active at the local, state, and national levels, serving on numerous committees and continuing her involvement well into retirement.
While her contributions at work played a tremendous role in her life, it was her faith in Christ that guided everything she did. She made certain that she, Jim, Britt, and Kent regularly attended all services at church. If it were up to her, they would be at church every time the doors were open. As a young mother, she made a commitment to raising her children in a Christ-centered home, and that her children heard the Gospel early and often during their childhood years. She read the Bible almost every day of her adult life, and particularly loved reading the Psalms each morning.
In her retirement years, Vi enjoyed gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren – shopping and cooking for them and taking them on fun outings. She will be deeply missed but always remembered for her unwavering love and commitment to her family and friends.
Services for Mrs. Paramore will be on Tuesday, February 17, 2026. Visitation will be from 12:00 PM until 1:00 PM at Leeds First Baptist Church 7481 Parkway Drive Leeds, Alabama 35094.
