Visitation will be Tuesday, August 6th at Kilgroe Funeral Home, Leeds, AL from 6 PM until 8 PM.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, August 7th at Kilgroe Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Jacky Connell officiating. Burial will follow at Cedar Grove Cemetery. Arrangements are by Kilgroe Funeral Home.
Willard Bagwell was born in Haleyville, AL, in a small community known as Dime, AL to Clifford and Elizabeth Bagwell on October 13, 1926. He graduated from Phillips High School, Birmingham, AL in May 1944. He was married to Diann Roberson of Leeds, AL for 33 years. He worked for Stockham Valves & Fittings for 37 years and retired as a Wage & Salary Administrator. He was a US Army Veteran. He enlisted in the Army as a Clerk General on August 10, 1944 and was assigned to duty with the 162nd Infantry on Jan. 24, 1945. He earned the Rifle Sharpshooter Ribbon March 23, 1945. He received the following military ribbons and medals: Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), Victory Ribbon, and 2 Overseas Service Bars. He received an Honorable Discharge November 27, 1946. He was involved in Eden Westside Baptist Church. He was also a founding member of Terry Walker Golf and Country Club in Leeds, AL where he won the club championship several different years. He received multiple honors and awards from the Southern Bowling Conference and from his prowess on the basketball court and the pitcher’s mound on the fast-pitch softball field.
Willard is preceded in death by mom & dad, Clifford & Elizabeth Bagwell, brother J. C. Bagwell, sister & bro-in-law Ima Lee & Gene Black, sister, Mary Wiginton and nephew Kenny Bagwell.
Willard is survived by his wife, Diann Bagwell, his sons & daughters-in-law: Ed & Cindy Bagwell of Danville, Pennsylvania, Joe & Debbie Bagwell of Gainesville, Georgia; Grandchildren & Great-Grandchildren Jeremy, April, Paisley, & Weston Bagwell of Braselton, GA; Dave, Bethany, & Lola Bagwell of Roswell, GA; Michael Bagwell of Roswell, GA; Jennifer, Jay, Noah, Will, & Baby (TBD) Posey of Durham, NC; and Holly & Scott Rudicil of Greensboro, NC; brother in law, Jay Wiginton and sister in law, Oleta Bagwell.
