

He was born in Logansport, LA on the March 27, 1924, to Samuel Foster and Amanda Galloway Smith.
CSM (Ret) Ivy Ray Smith served in World War II, Korean Conflict and Vietnam War. He was a lifetime member of Purple Heart Club, and member of VFW. He came to Fort Polk, Louisiana in 1967 where he has lived for the past 45 years. CSM (Ret) Ivy Ray Smith was of the Lutheran faith and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Leesville. He will truly be missed by all.
Preceded in death by his wife: Wanda Nell Smith, parents: Samuel and Amanda Smith.
CSM (Ret) Ivy Ray Smith is survived by daughters: Nancy Garcia and husband Andrew Garcia of Conroe, TX., Elizabeth Cooksey and husband Wyatt Cooksey of Livingston, TX.; son: David Ray Smith and wife Jamie Smith of Loverttsville, VA .; sister–in- law: Connie Johnson of Austin, TX.; brother-in-law: James Rhodes of Dripping Springs, TX. Grandsons: Dustin Paul Willis, William Andrew Smith, Jacob Allen Chapman, Samuel Rhodes Smith; grand-daughters: Amanda Wills Runnels, Molly Elizabeth Chapman, Jackie Lee Smith and Lilly Elizabeth Smith; Great-grandson: Mason Franklin Runnels.
Visitation will be held Friday, September 14, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Hixson Funeral Home in Leesville, LA and will resume at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, September, 15, 2012 until time of service at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church in Leesville, LA. Bro. Gary Archbold will be officiating. Burial will follow in Bethel Community Cemetery in Logansport, LA under the direction of Hixson Funeral Home of Leesville, LA.
