

Celebration of Life services for L. Reid Midkiff, 78, will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 30, 2013, in the Hixson Chapel, Leesville, LA, with Bro. Dennis Hackler and Bro. E.J. Bradshaw officiating. Interment will immediately follow on the grounds of Old Anacoco Cemetery, Anacoco, LA.
The family would like to invite friends for visitation Sunday, September 29, 2013, from the hours of 6-10 p.m. and Monday, September 30, 2013 from 8 a.m. until time of service at Hixson Funeral Home, Leesville, LA.
L. Reid Midkiff was born November 12, 1934, in Cottonwood Community to the late Pharoah Lonzie and Ursula Obilia Cryer Midkiff and was called home September 28, 2013. Mr. Reid entered Pickering school in 1940 and graduated in 1952. He entered McNeese State University in 1952 and graduated with a (BA Degree) in 1956. Mr. Reid entered McNeese State University again in 1961 and graduated with a (ME Degree) in 1965. He received his (+30) from NSU. Mr. Reid was a teacher, coach, assistant principal, and a principal during the years he worked for Pickering where he retired (1956-1990). He was in the National Guard from 1956-1964, worked for O’Banion Oil from 1990-1998, and Cubic Industries from 2001-2008. Mr. Reid joined the Masons in Leesville in 1952 and Pickering in 1984 where he served as Master in 1988 and Treasury for the past 19 years. He served the eighth Mason District as Master in 1995 and District Deputy Grand master in 1996. Mr. Reid also enjoyed the outdoors fishing and hunting. He will be remembered as a loving gentleman that touched many lives.
Mr. Reid was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters: Juanita “Shorty” Eavers, Louise Cryer, Virginia Midkiff and Eva Dean, and two brothers: Kermit E. Midkiff and Donald Midkiff. Left to cherish Mr. Reid’s memories will be his beloved wife of 55, years, Jean Smart Midkiff, three sons: Milton Reid Midkiff, William Wade Midkiff, and Daniel Ray Midkiff, two daughters: Brenda Jean Midkiff and Linda Faye Midkiff Askew, three sisters: Sudie Laverne Stephens, Jacklon Clarice Clement, and Comalea “Bea” Smart, three grandchildren, Kenneth Reid Askew, Kayla Jeanette Askew, and Shawn Patrick Midkiff, three great-grandchildren, along with many extended family members and numerous friends.
Honoring Mr. Reid as pallbearers will be Ryan Andress, Darrell Stephens, Terry Dawdon, Frankie Smart, Brian Ellezy, and Malcom Bolton.
Honorary pallbearer will be Mason Askew.
