

Gayle was born the first daughter of David L. Roy and Cordelia Hewitt Barmore on March 12, 1930, in Long Leaf, Louisiana. She spent the majority of her childhood in Alexandria, Louisiana. She was a life-long banker working at the Guaranty Bank and Trust, Vernon Bank and retired from the Merchant and Farmers Bank as Vice President. She was a member of the Mayor’s Women Commission and Museum Board of West Louisiana and an active member of the First United Methodist Church. Gayle was a proud Methodist for her entire life.
Gayle and Raymond Lynn Woods were married for 43 years. They have four children and nine grandchildren. Rae Lynn and Rod Mitchell of Bryan, TX and their children Katie, Rachel and Lindsey; Cynthia and Brett Johnson of The Woodlands, TX and their children Jacob and Kevin; John and Button Woods of Crowley, TX and their children Walker Lynn and Jordon; and Nancy and Dirk Smith of Bangkok, Thailand and their children Rylee and Erin. She will be missed by her brother Hewitt Barmore and sister Dorothy Winfield and her numerous nieces and nephews. Family was such an important part of her life as evident by hosting the annual 4th of July family reunion.
Gayle is predeceased by her parents, brothers Clarence and Roy Barmore and beloved husband.
Family visitation and viewing will be held at Hixson Funeral Home on Friday, January 21, from 5 to 8. A celebration of Gayle’s life will be held at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 22 at the First United Methodist Church followed by a short grave side service at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Steve Barmore (nephew), Brett Johnson (son-in-law), Jacob Johnson (grandson), Kevin Johnson (grandson), Houston Keppinger (great nephew), Rod Mitchell (son-in-law), Darwin Winfield (nephew), and Steve Woods (nephew).
Memorials can be made to the First United Methodist Church in Leesville, Louisiana.
