

Alvin Bruce Hoagland (Al) a native of Bakersfield, CA born June 23, 1925 and a resident of San Diego County since 1961 died September 15, 2017 in La Mesa, CA.
Al was a navy veteran who served his county 20 years. During WWII he was stationed in Saipan, in the Korean War he was at Okinawa, Japan and during Vietnam he was aboard the USS Bonhomme Richard. After retirement from the service Al worked as an engineer for NARF and other private firms on Coronado before retiring for good in 1981.
Al enjoyed many hobbies including painting, bowling and square dancing. He also obtained a private pilots’ license and flew small planes. After his retirement Al and his wife Helen enjoyed traveling and among other places, visited Russia, Australia, Italy and various cities in Mexico. Al was predeceased by his three sons, John, Donald and David. Surviving is his wife of 73 years Helen Moynier Hoagland, his daughters, Marcia Hoagland, Cheryl Still and Laura (David) Kerth, his grandsons, Eros Hoagland, Myles (Amy) Still, and Evan Still, his granddaughters, Emily Moreno, Amber(Garrett) Duke, Genna Still and Allison Kerth, his great grandson Zander Moreno and his great granddaughters Kaya Moreno, Ellory Duke and Sofia McIntyre.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests donations to your favorite charity. Services to be held Wednesday, September 27th at Fort Rosecrans Cemetery starting at 2:00 pm followed by an open house at the Hoagland home from 4-8 pm.
