Amy was born Amy Louise Sevik in Montpelier, North Dakota on 5/20/1930. Her father, John Sevik, immigrated from Norway as a teenager in 1914. Her mother, Inga, was the daughter of Norwegian immigrants. She was the third of four children with older sisters Verna and Irene and younger brother Erling.
As a teenager, she took a job and shared an apartment in town so she could attend Jamestown High School, from which she graduated in 1948. After High school, she took a job in the Stutsman County Assessor’s office prior to her marriage.
In 1949, she married George Herold after his return to Stutsman County from a hitch in the U.S. Navy. George worked as a line mechanic at the local Ford dealership, and he and Amy had their first four children (James, Robert, Mark and Gayle) while living in Jamestown.
The family moved to San Diego in 1959 where George took a job as a line mechanic at Colonial Ford in National City. In San Diego, Amy had two additional sons, Douglas and Craig. After George and Amy raised their children and George retired in 1989, they traveled extensively throughout the United States in a motorhome.
Amy’s favorite activities in retirement included crocheting, crossword puzzles and collecting buttons.
She is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband George and her sons James and Mark.
