My dear cousin Gene, as an only child, you were the younger brother that I never had. We grew up in adjoining homes, and therefore didn't have to argue about who was going to get which bedroom. I remember well, the fun we had together as children. Those were precious times that will live forever in my mind. There aren't words to adequately describe how you will be missed.

My deepest condolences to your children, your brother Albert, your sister Margie, and all of the others that loved you.

It's tough to get old. Friends and loved ones seem to leave us all too frequently. I am deeply saddened by your passing. I'm sure that your children are as well. I saw firsthand, their love for you in your final days, as they came to see you, some coming from extensive distances. When I asked you what did you feel that made your life most complete, you replied, “raising my children.” Such patience and dedication. Commendable. You generally put others needs before your own.

You broke longevity records at your place of employment. Nobody in today’s world ever works 45 years for any company! There’s that dedication again!

You are in a much better place now. No more pain and suffering. That big baseball game that you always wanted to play in, now beckons you. Have fun; enjoy your wings and your new found freedom. Hit that home run! You've earned it.

God Bless you and keep you safe in his arms.

Gene, you were the Big Brother I never had, from our days at St John of the Cross, to being Altar Boys at Santa Sophia, to Monte Vista... the whiffle ball games in your back yard (remember we made up major league lineups!!), playing football in your front yard, basketball in your drive way - we were best buds & the life got in the way & we didn't see each other for maybe 25-30 years (I wish we could have that time back!!) Say Hi to Father Verhoven & Father Pearson for me!! And if you can, please put in a good word for me, I'm gonna need it!! God Bless You Gene Klukas!!

Gene was such a great baseball player. I remember when he and I would play whiffle-baseball every Sunday afternoon in his ballfield that he made in his back yard. He was such a better player than I was that he would pitch to me left handed. And bat left handed -- just to make the game more even. And he could pitch left handed better than I could right-handed. Boy we had a good time imagining we were professional ballplayers. I will really miss Gene.
