Howard Klepser was an interesting guy and I met him in 1983 when I was a dispatcher for the Rigging Department at nassco. He was the go to guy when it came to the Transportation Department, both Rigging and Transportation both shared the same building and their was much interaction with the two departments. Howard as I got to know him had an interesting background: Marine Service, Interested in weapons, motorcycles, model trains and had the ambition of playing the piano. He later became a member of the Rigging Department as he became qualified as a crane operator and later as a supervisor of both crane operators and riggers when he was in charge of an entire ship's production activities for the Rigging Department. In 2002 when nassco bought new 300 ton cranes, Howard worked closely with the Japaneese Vendors training the new Nassco employees how to operate the new assets building ships. The result was a resounding success, as Japaneese and Nassco employees became familiar with the new cranes. He was also instrumental in providing new seats for the older cranes that required them. He left Nassco after I did, but he was thought of highly and was a valuable player in the Transportation and Rigging Departments's of Nassco. He was always there to help when required. It saddens me of his passing. A truly valuable asset to both Rigging and Transportation Department's - his finger prints are all over the company's success!
