Jay went to elementary school and high school in La Jolla, California and there he graduated. Jay kept his boyhood friends through his life and enjoyed many wonderful time with them.
Jay loved to bake and work at the bakery in La Jolla and this became his passion all through his life.
Shortly after high school he was drafted into the Army and spent two years at Fort Bliss, Texas. He was put into the guided missile program and also was a cook.
Upon leaving the Army he returned to San Diego and his life's career became working with technical machinery. He advanced from having a machine shop in his garage to developing his own business. His business was called "Jay Machine" and he employed his sixty employees. His company made everything from hospital equipment to parts for the Deering Banjo Company.
Jay's talents are too numerous to list. He was a master mechanic and a self-taught engineer.
Jay was a car collector and a racing enthusiast. As a young man he raced cars as well as building his own bath tub racer. He built the bath tub racer and even won a first prize award down at the San Diego bay. He loved model A Fords and had a beautiful 1956 black Ford pickup truck that he had restored from the ground up three different times. He was truly an artisan and a mechanic.
Jay attended the First Baptist Church of Lemon Grove, California with his wife Helen. He loved listening to the choir and enjoyed the fellowship with other believers at the church.
Jay was a very decent, honorable and loyal man. One was alway enriched by having him in your life. We, who knew him, loved him and will always remember and miss him.
Jay is survived by family members including his wife Helen; son Randolph; sister and brother-in-law Christine and Ronald McKown of San Diego,California; step-son and his wife David and Jacqueline Como of Lakeside, California; step-daughter and her husband Maria and Lennart Ohlund of Lemon Grove, California; 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
Graveside Service and Interment is Friday, December 28, 2012, 11 a.m. at Greenwood Memorial Park (I805 & Imperial - 4300 Imperial Avenue - San Diego, CA 92113).
