Born in Mason City Iowa to Soren and Johanna Petersen moved to Chula Vista California at age 7. She graduated high school at Hilltop High. She worked at The Broadway and retired from Macy’s Dept. Store and loved working retail, she always loved fashion and would always be dressed with the best. Jo Anne was married to Kenneth Schumacher for over 50 years and was married by Pastor Orville C. Butcher and 50 years later on their Golden Anniversary Pastor Butcher re-married them. Jo Anne was a loving Mother, Grandmother and Great Grandmother.
Jo Anne loved Apples. She has a wonderful apple collection. She said the reason she loved apples so much is because back on the farm in Iowa as a little girl she would look out in front of the farm house and there would be a beautiful apple tree and she would go out and pull one down and take a big bite out of it.
Skyline Wesleyan Church was a huge part of Jo Anne’s life. Jo Anne’s brother Gary said that she was his protector and it was she that witnessed to him and the rest of the Petersen family about Jesus Christ. Jo Anne was the first to be born again out of all of the Petersen children.
Jo Anne was always on the go with her friends from Skyline Wesleyan Church. They called themselves “The Gladabouts” “ The Gladabouts” would do good deeds and spread the love of Christ through serving. They were glad being about serving the Lord.
Jo Anne loved Julian Apple Pie. She would always say , without raisins. “No Raisins”
Jo Anne would always wear an apple on her lapel.
Jo Anne Schuhmacher. is survived by, daughter Sheri Van Elsburg and her husband Jonathan Schwartz. Son Kevin Schuhmacher, and wife Angela Schuhmacher, brother Gary Petersen and sister Beverly (Petersen) Golen as well as 4 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. And her best friend Mickey.
