The Rev. Laura (“Laurie”) Anne Line was born in San Diego on November 5, 1956 and died on July 31, 2020 in hospice care from complications of Primary Progressive Aphasia (a type of frontotemporal dementia).
Laurie was an ordained ELCA Lutheran pastor and served Ascension Lutheran Church in San Diego, Lemon Grove Lutheran Church in Lemon Grove, and Clairemont Lutheran Church in San Diego. She served in a temporary capacity at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Alpine and Cross and Crown Lutheran Church in Rancho Cucamonga.
She was an active member of many organizational councils. She served as secretary of the board for the Lutheran-Episcopal Campus Ministry at San Diego State University (Agape House). She was a member of the Inter-Lutheran Emergency Response Team (I-LERT), a volunteer with the Red Cross, and a volunteer with Sharp Hospice. She had a passion for disaster preparedness and taught everyone who would listen to always fill up your gas tank when it gets below half full (you really should).
Laurie had a gift for chaplaincy ministry, often at the bedside of the dying and comforting grieving families. She cared deeply for others and had a smile that lit up the room.
She was a church musician, singer, and pianist. She could find the harmony in any song and was often featured as a soloist.
Laurie loved traveling and staying in hotels. Her favorite destination was Hawaii but also enjoyed long road trips, knowing that oftentimes the journey is just as good as the destination.
Laurie will be remembered for her joyous outlook on life, her love of music (and chocolate), and her compassion for others.
Her legacy continues in her children, Rachel Line and Brandon Line. She was preceded in death by her mother, Rosetta “Rosie” Doane. She is survived by her father, Charles Doane, and sister, Deborah Attwood.
A small memorial service will be live-streamed through St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in San Diego on August 23 at 3:00pm. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, public attendance is not available. The live-stream will be available at this link: https://www.facebook.com/StAndrewsSD
