May 26, 1923 - January 13, 2014
Louise Williams passed away peacefully at her home in Spring Valley after a long illness. She was lovingly cared for by her daughters and close friends. She was born on May 26, 1923 to Morgan and Queen Elizabeth Taylor in Nashville, GA. She was a farmer’s daughter and one of six children. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Myrtle, brother, Ander, brother Albert, brother Curtis. She is survived by her daughter Carolyn Banks, (husband David) of Santa Paula, CA, her daughter Marilyn Cunningham (husband Ron) of Spring Valley, CA as well as many cousins and nephews and nieces in Florida, North Carolina and Arkansas.
Louise spent her early years in Florida and Georgia. It was near a military base just outside Tampa, Fla that she met a soldier who made a powerful impact. She met Ross Williams who became the love of her life and husband of 42 years until his death in 1987. They made their home in Florida for many years and relocated to his home of Arizona in 1962. They enjoyed life in Prescott, Arizona for a number of years. There they opened Louise’s Coffee Shop which provided an inviting place for lunch or cup of coffee. She was the baker and chef while he was the official greeter. While living in Prescott they were members of Miller Valley Baptist Church and 1st Southern Baptist Church of Prescott. After Ross experienced serious health issues they relocated to a different climate. After a few years in Yuma, Arizona they arrived in San Diego, CA.
They quickly connected with Lemon Grove Baptist Church where Louise faithfully attended worship and Bible study. She made many friends at her church as well as in her residential neighborhood of Terrace Estates. For a time she was the welcome hostess for any new residents to the community, was active in neighborhood Bible study groups and was the chaplain for the community and often led prayers before clubhouse occasions.
Along the way Louise began making quilts and discovered a talent and a consuming passion. She made beautiful quilts of all sizes and themes and thoroughly enjoyed going to craft shows. She had small hands but took pride in keeping those hands busy. Records indicate that she made over 3,000 quilts.
The family would like to express deep appreciation and acknowledgment to Dr. James Amberg who provided skill, expertise and compassion in caring for her for over two decades. He is a remarkable physician and a man of honor. The family also appreciates the care provided by Seasons Hospice during her final weeks of life.
A Visitation will be held on Friday, January 17, 2014 from 4 – 6 p.m. at Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary (619-460-4601). Funeral Service will be on Saturday, January 18th, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Lemon Grove. Louise’s final resting place will be next to her husband, Ross, at the Riverside National Cemetery.
Louise and her family request that anyone who would like to honor her life and memory make a contribution to Gideons International for the purchase and distribution of Bibles. Donations can be made to Gideons International , P.O. Box 2273, La Mesa, CA 92044.
