Margaret "Margy" Ann Martin was born in Evanston, Illinois on May 17, 1943 to Vernon and Eleanor Martin. She attended high school at Marywood High School in Evanston, where she graduated in 1961. Margy continued her studies at the University of San Diego (USD) College for Women with a degree in education. Following her graduation from USD in 1965, Marge began her teaching career as a Special Education Teacher with the Vista Unified School District. Margy also spent time teaching with the Niles Township High School District in Chicago, Illinois, the San Diego Unified School District, and the Diocese of San Diego, where she spent the last 13 years of her teaching career as an elementary school teacher.
She met her husband, Joseph Anthony Toland, Jr. in 1965 in San Diego. together they shared fifty loving years of marriage, and rised daughters Kathleen and Jennifer in Jamul, California, where they pursued their shared love of horses. In addition to her love of animals, Margy was also a skilled gardener and an avid traveler, having visited each of the continents during her lifetime.
Margy is survived by husband Joseph Anthony Toland Jr., daughters Kathleen Toland and Jennifer Toland Frewer, grandchildren Grace and Hugh Frewer, son-in-law Simon Frewer, brother Tom Martin of Chicago, IL and sister Mary DiTomaso of Spring Valley, California.
A Rosary and Memorial Mass for Margaret will be held at St. Pius X Catholic Church of Jamul, 14107 Lyons Valley Road, Jamul, CA 91935 at 10:00am on Thursday, December 19, 2019 followed by a reception and Celebration of Life at Steele Canyon Golf Club, 3199 Stonefield Drive, Jamul, CA 91935.
