August 23, 1941 - January 23, 2013
Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather and Brother, Robert Yslas, Sr., passed away in his sleep after a short battle with cancer in the early morning of January 23, 2013 at the age of 71. Born in Phoenix, AZ, Bob would later relocate to California at the age of 10 years old and settled with his family in San Diego. At the age of 26, he meet the love of his life, Maria Campos, they married and started their own family. To provide for his growing family, he worked various jobs until he found one that challenged him at Rohr Industries, in Chula Vista, where he worked for 34 years on fabricating aeronautical parts for planes, military equipment, and the space program.
Those who knew Bob would describe him as a quiet man, yet once you got to know him you quickly found out that he had a comical side. Coworkers, family, and friends were subject to his pranks, jokes, or witty sarcastic remarks, all done in fun and never meant to hurt. He had a huge heart, surpassed only by his love for his family. Although outward expression of emotion was mainly suppressed in public, his tenacity to help others overshadowed the impulse to remain private. Those who were close to him knew of his generosity, not with money per se, but with a caring spirit whose limitations saw no boundaries. As his children grew older and married, the sounds of grandchildren soon filled their home and would fill his heart with joy. Renewed by their curiosity and youthful energy, Bob cherished his grandchildren and was always quick with a story of their deeds and adventures.
Bob unfortunately battled heart and lung diseases for over 20 years culminating in his eventual diagnosis with stage 4 lung and liver cancer in mid-December 2012. He faced death as he lived life and fought to stay around for as long as he could. It was his faith that kept him strong, maintained a great attitude, all the while knowing his tenure on this earthly plane was limited. His time with us may have been cut short, but the memories and the lives he touched will live on for eternity.
Bob is survived and perpetually remembered by his wife, Maria Yslas, his son Robert, Jr. and his wife Catherine, his daughter Elizabeth Holanda-Diaz and her husband Eric, his grandchildren, Kirk Yslas, Jaeden and Wyatt Holanda-Diaz, his nieces Marielos and Angela who were like daughters to him, and by his two brothers and four sisters.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, January 30th, 2013 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM with a Rosary Service at 6:00 PM at Conrad Lemon Grove Mortuary, 7387 Broadway, Lemon Grove 91945. Blessed are those who have died in the Lord; let them rest from their labors for their good deeds go with them.
Eternal rest grant unto Robert, O Lord. And let perpetual light shine upon him. May he rest in peace. Amen.
May his soul and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, Rest in Peace. Amen.
