Shirley Ann Phillips

Goodbye Mama, goodbye Sweet Now off you go your lord to meet Thanks for such a gentle hand And for the rock on which we stand For guidance pure and lessons free And arms of love holding me Yo gave us love you shaped our heart Then sent us off to do our part With faith you knew you did it all So when we slipped we wouldn't fall As we close our eyes we see Our mom in heaven struggle free She left this earth in fashion grand Now she's holding Jesus' hand Love you Mama, love you sweet In Glory soon we all shall meet

Shirley Phillips was born in San Diego Dec. 24, 1935, at Mercy Hospital, for the gran sum of $50.00. Times have sure changed! Her twin, Margie Mae, died at birth. Her other sister, Cindy Davis, was born five years later. They were raised by their parents, Albert Ann White. Her Dad was Chief in the Navy; therefore, the family moved frequently. They settled in Lemon Grove, CA after he retired from the Navy in 1949. He bought a 1910 craftsman bungalow in North Park which was later move to 7014 Central Avenue in Lemon Grove where it remains today. Shirley attended four elementary schools and three junior high schools. She went to Grossmont High School for two years and then transferred to Helix High and graduated in 1953. After high school, she earned a Medical Assistant degree from San Diego City College. She married her most wonderful husband, Jake Phillips, April 19, 1958, at the Baptist Lemon Grove, where they attended throughout their married life. The most precious gift Shirley received was trusting Jesus as her Savior on June 3, 1962. She faithfully served the Lord by ministering to her family, friends, and church in every way possible. Jake and Shirley have three beautiful children, Lonnie, Janine Lynn, and Anne Wynell. They have six grandchildren, Christine Anne, Chad Matthew, Kevan Rae, Jimmy Burroughs, Julie Ann and Lyndsey Meredith. Shirley was a stay at home mom for many years. She obtained her nursing degree in 1979 and worked at El Cajon Valley Hospital and then at Grossmont Hospital for 8 ½ years on the surgical floor. She loved to encourage people with cards, text messages and phone calls. She got together with the friends and made her own cards, though she had to stop when she developed Macular Degeneration and it became hard for her to see. Now in Heaven, she is seeing the glory of our Savior, and the beauty of the Heaven, and all her family and friends that have gone before.
