Ursula Muller-Eberhard

Ursula is survived by her husband, John West; two daughters Monika Müller-Eberhard and Kristina Müller-Eberhard-Lamprecht, Thomas S.S. Lamprecht, two step-grandchildren Emil T. Lamprecht and Zofia M. Lamprecht, her nephew Ulrich Fleck, his spouse and their four sons and her niece Martina Fleck. She is also survived by her husband John’s large family including 14 great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her brother Hans Kurt Fleck and her sister Lili Fleck in Germany and her first husband Hans Joachim Müller-Eberhard.

Ursula was born on June 14th, 1928 in Göttingen, Germany to Martha and Ulrich Fleck. She graduated from Göttingen Medical School. She married Hans Joachim Müller-Eberhard after finishing medical school in 1954. Subsequently, Ursula moved to New York City where she began her residency in Pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital and then Cornell Medical College. During this time she had 2 daughters.

Ursula Müller-Eberhard was a highly accomplished physician-scientist in the field of Pediatric Hematology. Her career in biomedical research began in the 1960’s when she joined the Dept. of Biochemistry at the Scripps Clinic and Research Foundation in La Jolla and rose to the rank of Professor. In 1991, she accepted a position as Professor at Cornell University Medical College in the Dept. of Pediatric Hematology. After she retired from Cornell in 1994, Ursula dedicated her life more fully to pastoral care as she studied Biblical Counseling at Westminster Seminary in New York City, where she received a Master of Divinity degree. Ursula married Dr. John West on March 29th, 2003 and served with him as a missionary in the Ukraine for several years. Ursula had a zest for life and loved teaching and biblical counseling. Ursula was passionate about serving her Lord Jesus and took every opportunity to help people from all over the world, who would often visit her at her home in La Jolla.

A Memorial Service is scheduled for November 26th, 2016 at 2pm at La Jolla Christian Fellowship, 627 Genter Street, La Jolla, CA 92037 with a reception to follow at the same location. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Ursula’s wonderful life.
