Albert Lee Townsend

Mr. Townsend was born April 5, 1927 in Mitchell County to the late Bealer Townsend and Mattie Carver Townsend. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Patricia Ann Flores, brother, Harold Townsend and a sister, Kathleen Hicks.

Mr. Townsend was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a long time member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and was devoted to talking to others about his Jesus. Watching western movies and Nascar were some of his favorite things to do.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife of 65 years, Flossie Harmon Townsend of the home, daughters: Wanda Scoggin, Jane Walker and husband Dwayne, Phyllis Virginia Fox and husband Thomas “Tom” and a sister; Edith McCoury and husband Finley.

Also left to cherish his memory are eleven grandchildren, thirty great grandchildren and nine great-great grandchildren.

A funeral service to honor the memory of Mr. Townsend will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2017 at 3:00 pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church with Reverend Kenneth Poarch officiating. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 pm until 3:00 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Wildwood Cemetery in Lenoir.

Serving as pallbearers will be Paul Townsend, Tate Townsend, Richard Townsend, Travis Scoggin, Bradley Walker and Josh Walker. Honorary pallbearers will be Chris Austin and Odell Murphy.
