Mr. Powell was born September 25, 1938 in Burke County to the late Vernon Powell and Annie Maye Powell.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Barbara Ann Pritchard Powell, a son, Christopher Lee Powell, 2 sisters, Vera Ayers, Mildred Van Dyke and a brother, Marion Powell.
Mr. Powell graduated from Drexel High School, worked for Borden and Sealtest, as a milk truck driver. He was also a proud Veteran of the United States Army where he qualified as a sharpshooter on the rifle range. He was a member of Fellowship Baptist Church and a founding member of the Lenoir Rescue Squad.
Also left to cherish his memory are his great grandchildren, Gus Whisnant, Braxton Williams, Abigail Hinson, Brantley and Kinley Triplett, Grant Bowman and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members and a special friend, Betty Gaye Wilson.
A Funeral service will be held on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Jim Hamby officiating.
Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Military Honors will be provided by the Army National Guard and the Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard.
Serving as pallbearers will be Justin Williams, Seth Whisnant, Garrett Bowman, Arthur Bryant , Keith Triplett, Freddie Davis, Braxton Williams and Brantley Triplett.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
The family respectfully requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care at 902 Kirkwood Street Lenoir, N C 28645.
