He was born October 1, 1942 in Watauga County and preceded in death by his cherished wife Mary Jean Watson; his infant son, Richard Watson; his parents and multiple siblings. In addition to being a precious husband, loving father, proud Papaw, and wonderful friend, Mr. Watson was a retired Singer Furniture employee and of the Baptist faith. His infectious grin, loving personality, helping hands, and irreplaceable sense of humor will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his son, Larry and wife Brenda Deal of Hudson; three daughters Anita Watson of Boone, Janet and husband Chris Aiken of Hudson, Amy and husband Wesley Bush of Lenoir; six grandchildren, Emily Aiken, Ethan and wife Amanda Aiken, Emma Bush, Jacob Bush, Bobby and wife Emily Ragan, and Danielle Ragan; three great grandchildren, Amelia Aiken, Josiah Aiken, and Edison Wyatt Transeau; two brothers, Donald and wife Judy Dollar, Daniel and wife Betty Dollar; a sister Dorothy Penwell; multiple nieces and nephews; special family Judy Hodge and girls Vicki and Elizabeth; many dear friends and neighbors; and amazing medical caregivers, especially Marc F. Guerra and his entire staff.
The family will receive friends Sunday, May 30, 2021 from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Pendry’s Funeral Home with funeral services at 3:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Pastor Darren Peterson officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Chris Aiken, Ethan Aiken, Jacob Bush, Wesley Bush, Brooks Clark, and Bobby Ragan.
