

Carl Edwin Richards, age 89, of Lenoir, North Carolina passed away on Friday, August 18, 2023 at his residence. Mr. Richards was born May 25,1934 in Caldwell County to the late Thomas and Nancy Richards.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Jane Boone Richards, a son, Thomas Scott Richards, three sisters, Jewel Childers, Mary Lee, Coleen Pilkenton, four brothers, Paul, Frank, Ned and Bob Richards.
Carl was a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He retired from Broyhill Furniture where he was a maintenance manager, and was a proud veteran of the United States Army serving during the Korean Conflict. Carl loved baseball. He along with best friend, Wille LeFevere and Jay Knight formed Lenoir's semi-pro baseball team, the Lenoir Oilers. The team formed a large following and finished 7th in the 1971 and 1974 National Championship Series in Wichita, Kansas.
Carl was a member of Hudson First Baptist Church and attended Ambassador Baptist Church before returning to Hudson First Baptist.
Those left to cherish his memory include his son, Jeffrey Richards of Lenoir, a daughter, Nora Boone Coffey of Mountain City, TN, grandchildren, Sydney Richards of Jacksonville FL, Corey Coffey of Charlotte, NC , Ryan Richards of Charlotte, NC , Chase Richards and wife Ruth Anna of Archdale, NC, one great grandchild, Owen Richards, two brothers, Dan Richards of Cory, PA and Fred Richards of Hudson, NC and a daughter-in-law, Sylvia Coor Richards of Raleigh, NC.
A funeral service to honor Mr. Richards will be held on Thursday, August 24, 2023 at 2:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Robert Setzer officiating. A private interment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Garden in Lenoir. Serving as pallbearers will be Ryan Richards, Chase Richards, Corey Coffey, Brian Coffey, Josh Gibson, Zeke Gibson and Gabe Gibson.
