He was born in Watauga County, April 28, 1941 to the late Howard Samuel and Anna Elizabeth Ward Oakes.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Mrs. Evelyn Barnes Oakes.
Mr. Oakes is survived by his son, Clinton David Oakes and wife Regina Oakes of Boomer; daughters, Eva Dawn Oakes Perry and husband Greg of Lenoir, and Tina Oakes South and husband Don of Lenoir; grandchildren, April Kirby and husband Jonathan, Kristen Helton and husband Tyler, Sarah Harding and husband D. J., Ashley Eller and husband Dustin, and Matthew Perry; and four great-grandchildren.
A graveside service to honor the life of Mr. Oakes will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 8, 2022 at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with Rev. Kyle Lloyd officiating.
