

Mr. Campbell was born in Caldwell County to the late Donald Folk Campbell, Sr., and Bertha Warren Campbell. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his loving wife, Julia Carlisle Campbell; his oldest daughter, Sylvia C. Hennessey and his sisters, Lucille, Bernice and Kathleen.
Mr. Campbell was an Army Staff Sergeant in WWII serving under Patton. He fought and was wounded during the Battle of the Bulge receiving a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star. He owned and operated Crossroads Oil Company for 50 years and was known in Lenoir as “Mr. Esso/Exxon”. His favorite pastime was watching westerns or as he called them “shoot’em ups”.
Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Donna C. Fellers of Lenoir, Rebecca C. Belk and husband David of Charlotte, and Kimberly C. Ruff and husband Charles of Charlotte; a son-in-law, John Hennessey; granddaughters, Kathryn D. Burton and husband Robby, Katie Dettlaff and husband Dave, Julia-John Hennessey and fiancé Iain Hollyhoke, and Taylor D. Browning and husband Jamie; great grandchildren, Thomas Campbell Burton, Clay Burton, and Ella Sylvia Dettlaff. He also leaves behind his beloved pet, Dandy-Bandy and his special friend, Huldah Story.
The family extends a special thanks to Harmony Home Care, Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, Molly and Rob Weeks.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Belleview Cemetery with Pastor Chuck of College Avenue Baptist Church officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 15, 2015 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the home of Donna Fellers.
