

He was born on February 6, 1947 in Hinesville, Georgia to the late Osteen Delmas Greene, Sr. and Ruby Howell Estes.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Jerry “J.D.” Greene and Mary Frances Mackie.
Mr. Greene is survived by his brother, O. Delmas Greene and wife Polly; sisters, Wanda Morrison and Laura Holden; nieces and nephews, Deborah Anne West, Michael Harris Benfield, Kimberly Greene, Donna Benfield-McRae, Lynn Greene Dawson, David Greene, Jason Parsons, and Christina Greene; and many grand nieces and nephews, cousins, and very close friends in both North Carolina and California.
Mr. Greene graduated from Catawba Valley Community College with a degree in Architectural Design. He joined the Navy in 1967 and was stationed in Hawaii. Mr. Greene served in the Vietnam War in the Navy Seabees Unit. He was later transferred to Port Hueneme, located in Ventura County, California. Upon honorable discharge, Don settled in Ventura where he resided until 2017.
Mr. Greene established DG Designs, an Architectural and Interior Designs Company, which he continued until he “retired” in 2017. His passion for his work led him to often say, “I only work 16 days a year.”
He helped organize, and served as president for many years, the Ventura Sports and Race Car Club. He also founded and participated in Ventura Motorsports Car Shows. Mr. Greene enjoyed his extensive British and German sports car collection. He cherished his time sailing Elusive II, his 1961, 44 foot Kettenburg sailboat, in numerous sailing events.
The family would like to give special thanks to Janice and Ed Driscoll (cousins) and Brenda Boozer for years of supporting Don in his wellness journey.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 10, 2021 at 3:00 p.m. at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Don's memory may be made to Crossnore School and Children's Home, P.O. Box 249, Crossnore, North Carolina.
