

She was born on October 10, 1931 to the late Howard Lee Shoemake and Wilma McLean Shoemake. Mrs. Philyaw was a CNA and bible scholar. In her spare time she loved to garden, do puzzles, and crocheting.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Lee Philyaw; daughters, Barbara Ann Harvey and Baby Brenda Jane Mann; brother, Gary Shoemake; and sisters, Hazel Hollander and Darlis Bean.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, David Philyaw and wife Helen of Collettsville, Alton Philyaw and Charles Philyaw, both of Lenoir; daughter, Paula Bolick and husband Jack of Lenoir; sister, Mable Kiziah of Granite Falls; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and her caregiver Dwight Philyaw. Mrs. Philyaw also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service honoring the life of Mrs. Philyaw will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 16, 2020 at Pendry’s Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow at Philyaw Family Cemetery in Collettsville.
