

Ella Hamby, age 92, passed away on August 9, 2026. Born on November 20, 1933, Ella lived a life marked by steady devotion to others and a quiet strength that was felt by all who knew her. A resident of Lenoir, North Carolina, she will be remembered with deep respect and enduring gratitude.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Morris Hamby, her brothers; George, Roger, Oscar, Ernest, Bobby, James and Clifford White, her sisters; Gertrude Church and Della May Shatley.
Those closest to Ella knew her as a beloved presence—gentle in spirit, kind in heart, and compassionate in the ways that matter most. Her hard-working nature showed through in a life shaped by responsibility and care, carried out with humility rather than recognition. In countless moments, both ordinary and profound, she gave of herself selflessly, offering comfort, patience, and a steady hand to those around her.
Ella was a loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother, always putting her family first. She will be remembered as very outgoing person, never meeting a stranger and always willing to help others. Ella enjoyed growing flowers and weeding in her flower garden as well as keeping an immaculate home. She retired from Broyhill Furniture where she worked as an upholsterer.
Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Larry Hamby and wife Catherine of Lenoir, daughter, Janet Blades of Lenoir, grandson Christopher Blades and wife Ginny of Oakridge, Tennessee, a great grandson, Elliot Blades of Oakridge, Tennessee and a sister, Georgie Shatley and husband Wayne of Lenoir. Also surviving are numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home from 11:00 am until 12:00 pm.
A private graveside service is scheduled for immediate family only. The family thanks you for your consideration of their privacy at this time.
Ella’s faithful life was reflected in the consistent grace with which she met each day. She leaves behind a legacy of quiet goodness—one defined not by grand display, but by sincere love, steadfast service, and the lasting imprint of a life lived for others.
