Mr. Yates was born in Caldwell County to the late Dewey Yates and Hilda Curlee Yates. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters and a brother.
Survivors include his wife, Irene Kemp Yates, of the home; his son, William (Billy) Yates of the home; his brothers, Charles and Tommy Yates of Lenoir; his sisters, Brenda Dillard of Hillsboro, NC and Janna Lee Mozer of Lenoir. He also leaves behind one grandson, Andrew Yates and one great grandson, Josiah Yates to cherish his memory.
A graveside service will be held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 12:00 p.m. at Sardis Cemetery with the Rev. Nicky Waters officiating.
