

Mr. Barnette was born on March 2, 1939 in Caldwell County to the late Clarence Cottrell and Ethel Lillian Barnette. He worked at Kincaid furniture for 25 years as a rip saw operator. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially hunting and loved to drink his coffee. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Rose Eller Hendrix Barnette; and two brothers, Mitchell Barnette and Rhonda Barnette.
Survivors include his sons and daughters in law, Sonny and Melissa Barnette of Granite Falls, and Robert and Vickie Barnette of Bessemer City; a daughter, Crystal Thomas of Lenoir; one brother, Oscar Barnette of Newton; two sisters, Mildred Hodge of Lenoir and Nargie Erskine of Morganton; Eight grandchildren, Amy Blackburn, Joey Canterberry, Ashley Cucina, Brittney Revis, Austin Barnette, Amber Barnette, Jacob Thomas and Jameson Thomas; Six great grandchildren, Kyndal Bryant, Heaven Bryant, Eli Cucina, Haylee Carver, Brooklynn Cucina and Baylee Revis; he is also survived by numerous other relatives.
A memorial service will be held for Mr. Barnette in the Chapel of Pendry’s Funeral Home on Thursday, June 18, 2015 at 5:00 PM with Rev. Mike Spicer officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the funeral home.
