Iris Hartley Land, 89 of Lenoir North Carolina, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning July 3, 2018. She was born October 14, 1928 in Triplett, Watauga County, to the late Viola Hartley Stanley and Arthur Watson. Iris was preceded in death by her husband of forty years, Ambrose Maynard Land.
Family left to cherish her memory are daughter Linda Wilcox and husband Victor of Lenoir, son Steven Land and wife Elaine of Lenoir, two grandchildren, Amberlin Wilcox of Lenoir, and Christopher Land and wife Candy of Lenoir, sister Dorothy Cooke Saunders of Charlotte, step-granddaughter Tonya Jones and step-great granddaughter Kaylee Jones of Mount Olive.
Iris had been blessed with a full and wonderful life as a devoted wife and mother. She was not just a homemaker, but a “Family Keeper”. When her children were born she chose to stay at home. Because of this she was able to pursue a variety of activities that helped her provide for her family in many ways. She loved preserving fruits and vegetables from her garden and sewing clothes for her children and herself. Traveling became a big part of her life as she got older including going on cruises and bus tours with family, but her favorite place to travel was to the beach. Her hobbies included flower gardening, painting and doll making, especially Raggedy Ann and Andys.
A private family memorial service for Iris Hartley Land was provided by Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home. She loved to read the Bible and Scripture aids and since Iris was of the Jehovah’s Witness belief, Minister John Dotson of the local Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses officiated the memorial service. Iris loved picnics, so afterwards the family gathered at Julian Price Park to share a meal in her honor.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to Caldwell County Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645.
May our mother rest in peace until the resurrection.
