

Mr. Baker was born in Caldwell County to the late Elza Baker and Mollie Greene Baker on June 29, 1940. He was a member of Whitnel First Baptist Church and owned Melrose Sanding Company. Mr. Baker liked to take trips in his motor home, some to Florida for the NASCAR races and was an avid reader. He also had a love for classic cars and was a member of the Lenoir Downtown Cruisers.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Baker, a grandson, Don Allen Carlton and a sister, Daisy Faye Baker.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Judith Waters Baker, of the home, sons, Jeff Baker and wife Leigh Anne of Lenoir, Greg Baker of Hudson, daughter, Tina Johnson of Lenoir, step-daughter, Holly Little and husband Lee, brothers Paul Baker of Lenoir, Cavin Baker of Morganton, sisters, Kathy West and Debra Hollar of Lenoir, Loretta Wilson of Granite Falls, grandchildren Steven Baker of Lenoir, Wesley Baker of Hickory, Ashley of Chicago, IL, Holli Carlton of Lenoir, step grandchildren, Grace, Eli, Lily and six great grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Mr. Baker will be held on Friday, January 5, 2018 at 1:00 pm at Whitnel First Baptist Church with Rev. Stuart White and Rev. Steve Hedgecock officiating. Burial will follow the service at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 12:00 pm until 1:00 pm at the church.
