Mr. Cochran was born in Rupert, WV to the late Arnold Olivier Cochran and Helen Louise Kirk Cochran. He was preceded in death by his nephew Billy Joe Thompson, Jr.
Survivors include his son Shannon Edward Cochran and his girlfriend Melany Doty, his girlfriend of 43 years Virginia Spears, his sisters Carolyn Thompson, her husband Billy Joe Thompson Sr. and children, his youngest sister Phyllis Rookstool and her children.
James was a true character in every sense of the word. His life had spanned a broad spectrum. As a young man he was an authentic Cowboy. He worked at ranches in West Virginia and Virginia breaking horses. He was an accomplished Martial Artist earning a Second Degree Instructors Black Belt in Taekwondo after 21years of dedication and training. He was a Master Carver in the furniture industry and an amazing cook specializing in grilled and smoked meats.
James was a Devoted father and companion, and an unreplaceable friend . He always greeted you with a smile and made time to try to help anyone he could even if it was only to listen.
James loved life and he loved to laugh and to be happy, always having a joke or something funny to say just to make you smile.
His heart was as big as a cloudless sky as was his love for his family and friends. He loved everyone and everyone loved him. He left this world not having a known enemy.
He had a very strong work ethic and an even stronger play ethic, which he proudly passed on to his son.
He filled the world with light, love, hope, and happiness and a big helping of humor.
James you truly were a hella man , one all men young and old should aspire to be. You will be missed beyond any words written or spoken. Your family loves you.
