

He will be lovingly remembered by daughters, Stacy Roland and Kathryn Burkland (Chris), son James Matthew Roland, his grandchildren, Ray Shell (Blair), Annastasia Shell, Kaitlyn Roland (Hannah), Sabrina Roland and a great-granddaughter, Willa Roland.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Clara Roland and a brother, Joseph Neal Roland.
Many friends and family knew him as Jim or Jimmy. He was born July 25, 1950, and raised in the Oakhill community of Lenoir. He joined the Marine Corps right out of high school. He toured 21 countries during his 20 years of service, retiring as a Master Sergeant. Jim then returned home and worked for Broyhill Furniture, in management and retired again. He also operated Tween Town Restaurant in the community for several years. Jim loved to hunt and garden on his land. He adored his horses and spent many years as a member of the Horseman's Association. He was also a member of and served as an officer for the Lenoir Moose Lodge for many years.
The family will receive friends for two hours on Friday, August 22, 2025 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
A graveside service to honor the life of James Roland will be held 1:00 PM on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at Oxford Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery, 2889 Old Nc 90 Rd, Taylorsville, NC 28681. Military honors will be provided by the US Marine Corps and the Veterans Honor Guard from AmVets Post 76.
