

Janie Johnson Phillips Butler, 74, of Lenoir, passed away Saturday, June 19, 2010 at Valdese General Hospital.
Mrs. Butler was born in Wilkes County, to the late Robert Alexander Johnson and Viola Nickelson Johnson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Herbert Calvin Phillips, two sons: Dennis Richard and Johnny Herbert, one daughter: Wilma Jean, four brothers and three sisters. Mrs. Butler was retired from Broyhill Central Warehouse and she was a faithful member of East Flat Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James C. Butler of the home, one son: Paul Phillips and wife Jane of Rutherford College, one daughter: Wanda Hutchinson and husband Walter of Traphill, NC, one step daughter: Gina Watson and husband Dewayne of Lenoir, one brother: Earl Johnson of Winston-Salem, one sister: Maude Kennedy of Traphill, NC, six grandchildren: Ben and Elizabeth Phillips, Pamela Stewart Fairchild, James Stewart, Joe Hutchinson and Cindy Hutchinson Settle, two step grandchildren; James D. Smith and Levi I. Watson, nine great-grandchildren and three step-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services for Mrs. Butler will be held Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at East Flat Baptist Church with Reverend Claude B. Suddreth officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2:00 prior to the service at the church.
Serving as pallbearers will be grandsons Levi Watson, James Smith, James Stewart, Joe Hutchinson, Ben Phillips and Robert Fairchild.
