Joan began her teaching career under my mother's wing. She was an independent, gifted and truly unique educator. I counted myself blessed to know her beyond that relationship after my mother's death, my stepdad's death and to be welcomed at her home like a sister. Stringing beans, shucking corn, laughing hard and living life fully. Go be at peace and hang with your beloved brother, husband, parents and all the teachers from Whitnel. You done good.

We are heartbroken having just this minute found out that Joan had died. She was a very special friend to us; we first met her in 1970. She played the organ for Central Advent Christian Church for many years. We knew all of her family. She was a special lady and friend to our family. During the last year we saw her frequently at A.J's where she ate lunch most every day. We will certainly miss her. We ask God's blessings on her family.
