Juanita (Spicer) St. John, 90, of Lenoir, entered into the gates of Heaven on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at her home, surrounded by many who loved her. She was born on September 22, 1935, in Caldwell County to the late Eugene Spicer and the late Vena Elsie Anders Spicer.
In addition to her parents, Juanita was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Roy Lee St. John; her precious children, Bobby Ray St. John and Pamela Denese St. John Freeman; a son-in-law, Danny Ervin Freeman; two sisters: Kay Frances Barnett; Lois Spicer; and four brothers: Charles Spicer, FD Spicer, Roy Lee Spicer, Buddy Gene Spicer, a sister-in-law: Mary Ellen Spicer, and a nephew: Brian Spicer.
Juanita will be remembered as a steady light in the lives of those who knew her—warm in spirit, generous in heart, and unfailingly attentive to the needs of others. With a smile that came easily and a manner that put people at ease, she carried herself with a quiet grace and a deep devotion to family.
As a wife, mother, and sister, she was known for her diligence and care, always working hard and placing her loved ones first. Her many nieces and nephews will hold close the memory of her kindness, her good nature, and the gentle happiness she brought wherever she was.
Those closest to Juanita knew a woman whose care was expressed in steady, practical ways—most often through the warmth of a home-cooked meal and the quiet devotion of time spent with the people who mattered most. She was an amazing cook and was at her happiest when she was cooking for others, sewing, crocheting, and spending time with her family.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sister: Jerolene Spicer of Lenoir, a sister-in-law: Shirley Spicer of Lenoir, a brother-in-law: Toney Barnett of Lenoir, and a daughter-in-law: Lara Allen St. John of Granite Falls.
Also surviving are her nephews: Mike Spicer and wife Vickie of Lenoir, Tim Spicer and wife Donna of Lenoir, Mark Barnett and wife Rhonda of Lenoir, Todd Barnett and wife Deanna of Granite Falls, Greg Barnett of Lenoir, Cliff Spicer and wife Angie of Valdese, Neil Spicer and wife Blai of Charlotte, nieces, Donna Kirby and husband Roger of Lenoir, Teresa Henderson and husband Paul of Lenoir. She also has numerous great nieces, great nephews and extended family who will miss her greatly.
A service to honor Juanita will be held on Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at 3:00 pm in the chapel of Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Spicer officiating.
Interment will be held privately.
The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:45 pm until 2:45 pm at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home.
