

Mrs. Spears was born in Wilkes County to the late James Horton Grimes and Julie Baugus Grimes. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant son, Dwight Spears; five brothers, Jim, Clifford, Brantford, Chester and Dean Grimes; a sister, Pearl Byrd.
She was retired from Shur Spun and was a member of Oakland Heights Baptist Church.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years Wayne Spears of the home; her sons, David Spears of Hickory, Doug Spears of Lenoir and Benny Spears of Lenoir; her daughters, Debra Spears of Granite Falls and Darlene Spears Carpenter of Lenoir; her brothers, William R. Grimes of North Wilkesboro and R. G. Grimes of Hiddenite; her sisters, Bertha Grimes Walker of Lawrence, KY and Barbara Jean Grimes Bumgarner of Wilkesboro; her five grandchildren, Josh, Eric, Mark, Kelly and Steven and two great grandchildren, Landon and Ryan.
A funeral service will be held Sunday, May 27, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Preacher Joel Cook officiating. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Funeral Home Sunday from 1:00 until 3:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Tim Hilton, Neil Hawn, John Derleth, Larry Dotson, Victor Kidd, Joe McNeil, Gary Davis and Adam Hilton.
