Lester Odell Story, 86 years, of Harrisburg, NC passed away Saturday, June 16, 2018 at the NC State Veterans Home in Salisbury. Mr. Story was born in Caldwell County to the late Ona Greene Story and Odell Story. He was a retired machinist and enjoyed making things with his hands. He served as a Deacon at Central Baptist Church, of Lenoir, NC, as Assistant Scout Master Troop 222 of Whitnel, NC, and as an AA Field and Track Referee in Caldwell County. He was member of Providence Baptist Church of Harrisburg, NC. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife Irene, two brothers and a sister. Survivors include a son Gary Story and his wife, Brenda of Harrisburg, NC; sisters, Verlean Younce of Lenoir, NC, Cathy Hollar of Granite Falls, Edith Arnette of Lenoir, NC; brothers, Harvey Story of Lenoir, NC and Larry Story of Vilas, NC; two grandchildren, Amber Hall and her husband Josh, and Tara Lackey and her husband, Miles and five great grandchildren, Hayden Hall, Avery Hall, Reagan Lackey, William lackey and Emerson Lackey. The funeral service will be held Saturday, June 23, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Pendry's Chapel with Reverend Rody Carland officiating. The family will host a celebration of life for friends and family following the service at the funeral home. Entombment will be at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. Military honors will be provided by the North Carolina National Guard Honor Guard and Caldwell County Veterans Honor Guard. The family requests that memorials be made to Providence Baptist Church, Building Fund, PO Box 335, Harrisburg, NC 28075. Pendry's Funeral Home is assisting the Story family with arrangements.
