

Louis Edward Banner was born on January 13, 1922 in Caldwell County to the late Harry Garfield Banner and Sarah Hemphill Banner.
On October 18, 1947, Louis Banner was united in marriage to the former Mardrey Mae Corpening of Morganton, NC. To this union five children were born. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sons, Longeon and LaFayette and one daughter Joan, who died at birth. Also, he was predeceased by his siblings, Lawrence, Vera, Charles, Oscar, Alfred, and Robert Banner.
Before his health started failing, Louis Banner worked faithfully and untiringly at Hood’s Chapel United Church of God. He was a very loyal, dedicated, and active member in the church. He served as the Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, and Chairman of the Deacon Board. In addition, he was a member of the Trustee Board, Senior Choir, and Brotherhood. Also, he served as one of the custodians of the church.
On July 14, 1942, he joined the United States Army and fought in World War II. While serving in the Army, he was also a military police. He was very proud to have served his country in the military.
Louis was retired from Lenoir Furniture Corporation as a furniture inspector after working there approximately forty years.
Fond memories of his life will be cherished by his wife of 63 years, Mardrey Banner; one son, Ronnie Banner (Bessie Ann) of Lenoir, NC; one daughter, Linda Banner Curry (Bernard) of Burlington, NC; special nephew, Donald Banner; three grandchildren, Chastity Banner, Ronnie Banner, Jr., and Leeya Winstead (Anthony); four step grandchildren, Antionette Kirkland (Maurice), Kimmie Michaux, Tyra Horton (Sherman), and Erica Bailey; seven great grandchildren, eight sisters-in-law and one brother-in-law, numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday July 13, 2011 at Pendry’s Funeral Home and Crematory in Lenoir, NC from 6:00 – 7:30 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 14, 2011 at 1:00 p.m. at Hood’s Chapel United Church of God conducted by Bishop Philmore Hester. Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Memorial Park with military honors.
