

Luther Barnes Greene, "Luke", age 83, of Lenoir, went to be with his Lord on the morning of Tuesday, July 8, 2026, while in the care of Amorem Hospice. He was born on December 1, 1942, to the late Nolan and Rachel Greene.
In addition to his parents, Luther was preceded in death by his wife Evelyn Haynes Greene, his two sons Travis Allen Greene and Ronald Bivens, one grandchild, and his son-in-law Johnny L. Harris.
Luther is survived by his wife Sharold Cotton Greene, his brother John B. Greene of Columbia, SC, his daughter Susie Harris of Deep Gap, his son Richard Bivens (Carla) of Shelby, his grandchildren Olivia Harris Prouty (Dave) and the Bivens’ children, his great-grandchildren Audrey and Ava Prouty and the Bivens’ grandchildren, his niece Karin Greene Skipper (Steve), his nephews Larry Greene and Bobby Greene, and many cousins in the Vines and Greene families.
Luke was a member of Nelson's Chapel Baptist Church in Lenoir, where he enjoyed choir, Sunday School, and worship. Earlier in his life, Luther participated in prison ministry, mission trips to Jamaica, Royal Ambassadors, and music ministry while living in Shelby. For 26 years, Luther worked as a supervisor for NC DOT. Luther loved to sing and sang at over a hundred funerals in his lifetime. Even while enduring hospital stays and medical treatment, Luther enjoyed serenading the nurses. Luke loved studying the Bible, researching genealogy of the Vines and Greene families. He also loved spending time with his furbaby, Tommy.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 PM until 2:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home, 522 Wilkesboro Blvd, Lenoir, NC 28645.
The funeral service will take place 2:00 PM on Monday, July 13, 2026, at Pendry's Lenoir Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Eddie Summerlin along with Phil Norris.
A private burial will take place at Sunset Cemetery in Shelby, NC.
