
Mr. Wall was born July 5, 1924 in Elkin, NC, to the late William McKinley and Dulcie Scott Wall. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Nancy Johnson Wall, one sister, Rebecca McCann, and one brother, Harold Wall.
He is survived by one son, Eugene Wall and partner, Mary Fox of Cary, NC; one daughter, Lucy Slagle and husband, Jim Slagle of Lynchburg, Va.; one brother, Royce Wall and wife Eloise Wall of Dobson, NC; four grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and a special friend, Nancy Prestwood.
Mr. Wall served in the US Army during World War II in Italy, France, Germany, and North Africa. He received a Purple Heart. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans.
He as a 1947 graduate of Gupton Jones College of Mortuary Service, Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN. He was a licensed embalmer for sixty-four years, having retired from Pendry’s Funeral Home.
Mr. Wall was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Lenoir, NC and active in various civic organizations such as Lenoir Lions Club, President of Lenoir Golf Club, Lenoir Optimist Club, and served on the planning board for the Cajah’s Mountain Town Council. He was also a volunteer at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care of Lenoir, NC. for 24 years.
A service to celebrate the life of Mack Wall will be Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church of Lenoir, NC at 11:00 am with Reverend Marietta Smith officiating. A visitation will follow in the Gathering Room of the Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks memorials be made to Caldwell Hospice and Palliative Care, 902 Kirkwood Street, Lenoir, NC 28645 or to the First Methodist Church of Lenoir, C/O of the Building Fund, 309 Church St NW, Lenoir, NC 28645.
