Margaret Juristine Lipford Abernathy

Mrs. Margaret Juristine Abernathy, 78, of Lenoir went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Caldwell Memorial Hospital. Born on June 21, 1938 in Caldwell County, she was the daughter of the late Arnie Lipford and Grace Horton Lipford.

Mrs. Abernathy was a member of the American Legion in Lenoir and a member of St. Paul AME Church in Lenoir.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert L. Abernathy, Sr.; step-mother, Mary Liza Lipford; her daughter, Kelly Abernathy; her loving granddaughter, Tiffany Abernathy and her brother, Edward Lipford. She is survived by her children, Robert Lemond Abernathy, Jr. of Columbus, GA, Curtis Abernathy, Sr. of New York, New York, and Melissa Taylor of Lenoir; a host of grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren; her brother, Durant “Duke” Lipford and his wife, Marietta of Lenoir; sisters, Jerlene Lipford Michaux of Lenoir, Jeanette Suitt of Lenoir; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Abernathy will lie in state from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at Pendry’s Funeral Home & Crematory in Lenoir.

The family will receive friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 21, 2016 at St. Paul AME Church in Lenoir. A Service or Worship Celebrating her life will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church with the Reverend Bryson Grayson officiating.

Graveside Services will follow the service at Blue Ridge Memorial Park in Lenoir.
