

Margaret Jane Walsh Keenan (“Margot”) passed away peacefully on May 29, 2025, at the age of 90. She was born on December 20, 1934, in Buenos Aires, Argentina, the third child of Philip and Helen Walsh. She attended Northlands School in Buenos Aires, where she excelled at tennis and swimming. Her family relocated to Grosse Point, Michigan for her father’s work with General Motors when Margot was 14, and then to Mexico City, Mexico. Margot graduated from the American High School in Mexico City in 1952. She attended Connecticut College for Women and graduated in 1956 with a degree in Spanish. In the summer of 1954, Margot met the love of her life, Thomas Keenan, in Jamestown, where they were married on June 23, 1956. Together, they had six children. For more than twenty years, Margot and Tom raised their children in homes in South America and the Caribbean, supporting Tom’s work with the United States Government. Upon Tom’s retirement in 1985, Margot and Tom built a home in Wakefield, Rhode Island. They enjoyed time together, travelled extensively, and created a beautiful home where they were visited often by their children and grandchildren. In 2015, they moved to Tallahassee, Florida, and then to Boone, North Carolina in 2024 to be near their daughters.
Margot was selfless, generous, kind and loyal. She cared deeply for her family and acknowledged every birthday and every occasion, both large and small of every family member. She loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was most happy when sharing time with her husband, Tom.
Margot is survived by her husband of 69 years, Thomas Keenan; by her six children, Mary Nugent (Al), Kathleen Brooks (Mitchell), Thomas Keenan Jr. (Shauna), Sheila Rubin (Andrew), Patricia Charlton, and Carol Perrier (Tim); by fourteen grandchildren; and by eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters, Deborah and Mary. She was predeceased by her brother, John.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM on Thursday, June 12, 2025, at St. Elizabeth of the Hill Country Catholic Church, 259 Pilgrims Way, Boone, North Carolina.
Burial will be at Tallahassee National Cemetery, in Tallahassee, Florida, on July 11th, 2025, at 11:00 AM.
