

Mrs. Hawkins was born in Yancey County to the late Silas Edwards and Sarah Atlas Fender Edwards. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Glenn Roy Hawkins and brothers, James, Billy Joe and John D. Edwards. She was retired from Bernhardt Furniture and attended Meadowbrook Baptist Church.
Survivors include her sons, Douglas Hawkins and wife Kathy of Lenoir; daughters, Sylvia Dula and husband Steve of Lenoir and Debra Nelson and husband Dennis of Lenoir; sisters, Barbara Prestwood and husband Robert of Hickory, Gladys Chapman and husband Bill of Hudson and Jean Laws of Lenoir. She is also survived by three grandchildren, Scott Dula, Sara Smith and Kristie Joplin, and four great grandchildren, Tyler White, Avyn Dula, J. R. Joplin and Knox Dula.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at 4:00 p.m. in Pendry’s Chapel with Reverend Justin Joplin of Richmond, VA officiating. Burial will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at Pendry’s Funeral Home Wednesday from 2:00 until 4:00 p.m.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Dula, Stephen Smith, Michael Edwards, Buddy Chapman, Steve Bryant and Jonathan Suddreth. Honorary pallbearers will be Tyler White, J. R. Joplin and Knox Dula.
