She was born in Caldwell County on December 28, 1936 to the late Booker T. Jones and Iana Ferguson Jones. Mrs. Salley was a faithful member of Mt. Bethel Mitchell Chapel A.M.E Church where she served as Trustee and President of the Woman’s Missionary Society. She was the last surviving member of the Soul Singing Caravan. She was employed as a CNA-In Home Aid.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of fifty-six years, Clifton Salley, one brother, David Jones and a grandson, Alton Salley.
Those left to cherish her memory include her sons, Robert Jones, Ben (Muriel) Salley and Michael Salley; daughters, Delphine “Sue” Salley and Karen (Rusty) Patterson; brothers, Johnny (Creola) Jones and Jr. Jones; sisters, Ann (Delton) Jones Ferguson, Nancy Jones Ferguson, Marilyn (Leonard) Jones Patterson, and “Mamie” Alwina Jones Dooley, sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren and three great- great grandchildren.
A funeral service for Mrs. Salley will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at St. Paul AME Church with Rev. James Cross and Rev. Keith Banner officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Interment will be at Mitchell Chapel A.M.E. Church cemetery.
