Ora Lea Moretz Kincaid passed away peacefully, while in the arms of her niece, Virginia Duffey with Virginia’s husband Larry by their side on Monday, May 8, 2016 at Caldwell Hospice in Hudson. Mrs. Kincaid was born in Watauga County, and was a daughter of the late Sion Gideon Moretz and Virginia Dare Stanberry Moretz. A graduate of Boone High School, she attended one year at ASU. Mrs. Kincaid influenced many children in the Caldwell County School system as a substitute teacher and ended her tenure in the school system as a teacher’s assistant at Gamewell Elementary.
She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Lenoir, and was also very active at St. Stephen Lutheran Church where she helped her twin work on their church newsletters as well as helping on the Altar Guild.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Ross Pearson, as well as their daughter, Linda Pearson Martin. She also outlived her precious husband, Grady N. Kincaid. Mrs. Kincaid was one out of ten children and she survived all of her siblings including her infant sister, Eleanor, older sister, Mary Moretz Hubbard, twin sister, Ola Mae Moretz McGowan, youngest sister, Hazel Moretz Dotson, as well as brothers, Blaine, Arlie, Herman, Avery, and Cecil.
Mrs. Kincaid was the loving grandmother to Linda’s three children, Stephen Martin and wife, Heather, and great-grandson, Jackson; Jason Ross Martin and wife, Jenny, and Alicia Dawn Martin. One of her greatest joys came from her great-granddaughter, Emilee Jordan Martin. Ora made it clear that she wanted to be called “Grandmother Kincaid”. It was later shortened by the grands, and, thereafter, she was fondly referred to as “GK”.
Ora loved her heavenly Father, her family, her church, and her community. Her faith kept her strong through the death of two husbands as well as her only child. Her mantra “Keep the Faith” was contagious and so many in the family drew strength from her strong faith in the Almighty. Even in the midst of adversity, she would say, “Perseverance is the Key Word”!
She was an avid gardener and took such pride in her yard and garden. As she gardened, she often sang “I’m An Old Cowhand”, and that became her signature phrase. One of her favorite past times was picking up sticks and leaves. She contributed hard work to the longevity of her life. She and her twin would help each other daily. Where you saw one twin, you likely saw the other. They were inseparable.
In her last few years, her niece, Virginia (Gigi) Duffey, and husband, Larry, moved her to their home so that she could be with her twin sister. In her 96 years, she touched the lives of many and she will be greatly missed.
A funeral service for Ora M. Kincaid will be held on Friday, May 13, 2016 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service, from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Blue Ridge Cemetery. Officiating will be Dr. David Smith, retired and loving Pastor from First Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank those who shared many acts of kindness and love during Aunt Ora’s last few months. Special thanks go to her niece and her husband, Virginia and Larry Duffey, for the loving care they gave her over the years. We would also like to thank the staff at Brookdale Lenoir, as well as the nurses that cared so tenderly for her at Caldwell Hospice.
