Oscar was born in Gaston County on December 27, 1943, to the late Thomas Andrew Smith and Bertha Elizabeth Huffman Smith.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by two sons, Kenneth Smith and Kendall Harrison Smith, five sisters and four brothers.
He served in Vietnam with the United States Army. He retired from the N.C. State Bridge Department. He was of Baptist faith and affiliated with Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Oscar enjoyed working with children in the Boy Scouts. He loved to garden and can food before his health declined. His hobbies included; gold panning, wood working and socializing.
Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 24 years, Anne Smith of the home, son; Kevin Oscar Smith and fiancé Ivy Angel of Lenoir, two stepsons, Edward L. Spivey Jr. and wife Donna of Collettesville, William L. Spivey and Wife Marcie of Hickory, stepdaughter; Tereshia Bristol and husband Kenneth of Granite Falls, one brother; William Henry Smith and wife Becky of Tennessee, one grandson, Graylan Smith of Hickory and nine step grandchildren and ten step great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends on Monday, August 10, 2020 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Pendry’s Lenoir Funeral Home in a drive thru visitation. The family will be present on the portico to greet visitors from their cars as they drive by. This is to ensure safe social distancing for the family and for our visitors. The register book will be available to sign as you drive thru to pay your respects to the family.
